1. Allerton Castle

Located in North Yorkshire, this 18th Century gothic castle is surrounded by 200 acres of parkland and tranquil formal gardens.

At almost 80ft high, the galleried great hall is one of England’s highest baronial halls and the spectacular principal staircase opens under a vaulted ceiling.

2. Kenilworth Castle

When it comes to love stories, the romance of Robert Dudley and Elizabeth I is legendary.

Dudley created this Warwickshire palace in 1575 to impress his beloved ‘Virgin Queen’ and lavishly wooed her within its walls. Although that particular love story didn’t involve marriage, you can hire this historic venue for your own nuptials.

3. Belvoir Castle

For a traditional ceremony, Belvoir, which has a magical hilltop setting in rural Leicestershire, houses an intimate, family chapel for Church of England services.

4. Wedderburn Castle

Celebrating its 15th year as a wedding venue, Wedderburn is a private castle in the romantic Scottish Borders.

A family-run business, wedding packages are tailor made and from spring 2011, couples can hire the rustic, 150-capacity Wedderburn Barns – complete with spit roasts – for their parties.

5. Augill Castle

A chic Cumbrian castle with character, Augill has turrets and towers, private grounds and decadent accommodation.

The wedding package includes exclusive use of the whole castle, a choice of three rooms for the ceremony and a spacious honeymoon suite complete with champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries.

For all weddings booked and held in 2011, Augill is offering an all-inclusive two-day Fairytale Wedding Package at £10,000.

6. Clearwell Castle

The ballroom at Clearwell Castle (45 mins from Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester) provides the serene setting you’d usually find in a church.

With a 75ft aisle and leaded glass windows, the castle weddings venue is licensed for civil ceremonies.

The ballroom also seats up to 160 guests for a wedding breakfast, while the reception rooms and vaulted cellar can accommodate 250 guests for dancing.

7. Pendennis Castle

Built by Henry VIII, Pendennis castle in Falmouth is steeped in history. A Cornish landmark set high on the headland, with panoramic views out to sea, the castle’s keep can accommodate 100 guests for an unforgettable wedding ceremony.

You can even have your reception in the artillery barracks or hire a marquee for a wedding in the summer.

8. Craig Y Nos Castle

Situated between Swansea and Brecon, within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Craig Y Nos (meaning ‘rock of the night’) is an idyllic country castle with listed gardens. Ideal for some castle weddings.

It also boasts a Grade One listed opera house theatre, as well as newly-refurbished conservatory; Both are licensed for weddings.
