Review: Eden Project’s Med Terrace Restaurant

Positioned in the middle of the Mediterranean Biodome underneath towering date palms and Italian olive groves, the Eden Project’s signature Med Terrace Restaurant is miles apart from the usual dining establishments found at visitor attractions.

Forget soulless and unhealthy burgers, here the menu is all about sustainable, locally produced and freshly prepared cracking Mediterranean fare served in iconic surroundings filled with flowering blooms. A foodie destination in its own right and offering up something for everyone, here the best of both worlds means alongside great food in an immaculate setting, you can expect super friendly service too.

In summer, when the sun drops in from the geometric panels above your head, and the scent of bougainvillea and lemon trees fills the air, the feel here could rival anything you’d stumble across in a small quaint Greek Island village taverna.

Head chef Mike Greer and his team excel at small plates and serve the most marvellous Cornish tapas; you’ll love the Cornish Blue cheese arancini with roasted beetroot ketchup and Gran Moravia, and the cured Cornish monkfish with a combination of pickled ginger, fresh citrus and pink onions simply dances on the tongue.

When you’re ready to order a main, go for the famed saffron infused paella with Cornish seafood, chicken, chorizo and Lerwick langoustine – it’s lip-smacking, as is the Pan seared Cornish hake with Italian bean stew and wild garlic pesto.

In keeping with the conservation aims of the Eden Project, vegans are easily catered for too. Dishes such as Fregola pasta with olives, roasted peppers, spinach and arabiatta pesto deliver up plenty of flavour and look incredible.

The drinks menu is very of the moment too with homemade lemonades and colas on offer alongside wines available by the glass, bottle or carafe. Desserts are seriously moreish; we couldn’t get enough of the Panela and vanilla panna cotta with roasted rhubarb (but also saved some space for the delicious and very special homemade baobab ice cream over at the ice cream parlour in between the Mediterranean and Tropical Biomes).

The Med Terrace is a gorgeous spot for a Cornish minimoon lunch date, especially so for nature lovers. We’d recommend booking in advance to guarantee a reservation.
