Budget
Once upon a time, it was customary for the bride’s dad to pay for the whole wedding. Thankfully, we’ve moved on from those days, but if your dad is contributing to your wedding, have the conversation with him to establish budget and boundaries.
Transport
Most men like cars, so why not feed that cliche? His duties could also have him oversee the transport on your wedding day, ensuring it arrives on time to take you to your wedding.
It’s the father’s responsibility to get the bride to the ceremony on time, so make sure he is on top of the timings and wedding schedule – otherwise you may leave your groom waiting!
At church ceremonies, traditional father of the bride duties also include dads giving their daughters away, which is one custom you may want to keep.
Father of the Bride Duties: Speech
A speech is usually up there as one of the most important duties. It’s customary for him to thank guests for coming, offer some humorous and touching stories about his daughter’s life, welcome his son-in-law into the family, and offer a toast to the bride and groom. This can often be the only chance the bride’s father gets to publicly thank the guests. Have fun with tailoring it to you and your daughter’s unique relationship.
Remaining responsibilities
The bride’s parents are traditionally the hosts of the wedding breakfast and reception, and usually, mum and dad are the first two people to greet guests. These days, it’s more relaxed and everyone is left to mingle. Your dad may want to choose this time to introduce himself to your guests and ensure everyone has a drink.
Other father of the bride duties often include ensuring everyone leaves the venue safely. He might also make sure all suppliers are paid and that any wedding gifts are taken and stored safely.
