Located at the top of the Spanish Steps, Hotel de la Ville is perfectly positioned in the heart of the Eternal City and easy walking distance from every historical landmark.
Designer Tommaso Ziffer, in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, Director of Design for Rocco Forte Hotels, was inspired by The Grand Tour of the 18th century, when English and German nobles collected pieces of art during their cultural journeys to European cities.
Using the backdrop of the timeless palazzo, Ziffer has created a contemporary retrospective of The Grand Tour by taking guests on a playful voyage of discovery. Working with local artisans, the lavishness of the 18th century can be seen in the display of handmade wallpaper from local designers Rubelli and Dedar, rich Italian fabrics and historic tapestries from Zardi & Zardi.
But despite all its artistic offering, Hotel de la Ville seemingly positions itself as a collection of restaurants with rooms rather than just a hotel – and it’s no wonder – as their authentic culinary offering is second to none.
Chef Fulvio Pierangelini cooks traditional Roman dishes faultlessly but fuses them with exotic spices and flavours to deliver reliably delicious food across the three restaurants. Stand-out plates include the deep-fried baby squid with a sweet and sour dressing and the breaded sea-bass.
Other than the main restaurant Mosaico, there is also La Sistina, an informal restaurant on the ground floor, plus the Cielo Bar that spreads over two roof terraces with views over the city from the Vittoriano monument to St. Peter’s. But despite being in the centre, with memorable panoramic views of Rome from their large terraces, De La Ville Spa offers a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
