Venue of the Month: Gate Street Barn, Surrey

This month, we’re looking to Gate Street Barn, a charming, luxurious and exclusive-use wedding venue nestled among the Surrey Hills’ beautiful and peaceful countryside, offering exclusive use for couples.

The beautiful setting on a working farm provides a truly unique atmosphere and the secluded property is the ideal space for a peaceful country wedding.

This exclusive-use venue centres on an elegant converted barn with beautiful accommodation on offer for the bridal party and newly-married couple that add a unique element to the celebrations.

Facilities & Capacity

The barn is the beating heart of Gate Street, bursting with character, charm, and stunning staging areas, with chandeliers that can be decked out with gorgeous seasonal foliage by your florist.

The room is one of three designated civil ceremony spaces and also serves as the wedding breakfast room and dance floor area, and is seamlessly changed over while you and your guests enjoy drinks receptions overlooking the estate’s beautiful gardens.

Outside, a beautiful hidden woodland among bluebell paths provides a romantic setting for summer nuptials. Alternatively, the Farmhouse Avenue area is manicured and maintained as part of the Gate Street gardens and for use as an outdoor ceremony space. Both areas licensed for Civil Ceremonies, meaning you are legally able to be married here.

Post-ceremony, couples will have access to the acres of garden available for those all-important photographs, from hidden garden courtyards to rolling hills dotted with farm animals. If the weather isn’t on your side – or you’ve opted for an intimate winter or autumn wedding – you’ll have use of a multitude of indoor spaces.

The Pheasantry

These include the Atrium, a new light-filled space framed in wooden beams that in winter are decked out in Christmas foliage, and the Pheasantry, lined with autumn-hued hops that provide a beautiful aesthetic year-round.

A fully-licensed bar is tucked away in the Pheasantry, which provides a gathering area for your guests, with comfy sofa areas looking onto a courtyard that feature heaters and fire pits where you can toast marshmallows. All guests enjoy free parking with EV chargers, as well as a platform lift for wheelchair users and hearing loop.

Accommodation

Exclusive use of this country bolthole takes away the stress of finding accommodation and transport for up to 28 guests.

The accommodation on site is one of the crowning glories of Gate Street, with rooms that blend laidback luxury with homeliness. Your nearest and dearest have the choice of six accommodation options: two cosy glamping units for two, the stylish Stable Flat for six, the new, luxuriously converted en-suite Pool House and the cosy Hayloft, both for two – perfect for the newlyweds – and up to 14 guests in the Gate Street Farmhouse.

The latter offers seven beautifully luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms looking onto the grounds, and guests can expect luxe furnishings, a cosy sitting area, tennis courts, a swimming pool and a huge modern kitchen, where breakfast for all guests on site is cooked up and served by a private chef at 10am the next morning as you regale tales of the night before.

The Hayloft

Adjoined to the Stable Flat property awaits the bridal suite, The Tack Room, where you can get ready with your bride squad. Complete with multiple mirrors and a private bathroom, there’s plenty of space for everyone to get ready and calm those last-minute nerves.

The groom and his ushers have use of the Old Dairy just opposite the barn, a large, stylish yet cosy area complete with log burner, with plenty of space to add those final touches.

For guest staying in the area, before and after the wedding, the surrounding Surrey Hills offer an endless variety of both laid-back B&Bs, gastropubs with rooms and luxurious hotels, alongside walking routes, stately homes and local villages to explore.

Drinking & Dining

Gate Street offer an approved list of six caterers who offer something for every couple. From luxury fine luxury dining using the finest ingredients to hearty winter meals, you’re spoilt for choice, from traditional three-course extravaganzas and Italian antipasti buffets to barbecues and hog roasts.

Couples can opt for either long or round tables (both of which as well as chairs are included in the hire cost), with space for 150 guests to eat and drink to their heart’s content. The barn’s versatility means there’s the option to dim the lights for a cosy and intimate atmosphere during the colder months or embrace the summer sun with the oversized windows.

There’s also the option to provide a non-approved caterer and your own drinks for a fee, or leave it to the Gate Street team, who’ll create bespoke drinks packages for you and your guests. Flexibility is key and they’ll do their very best to adhere to every couple’s desires, whether you want to create bespoke Espresso Martinis, offer mulled wine or seek out a hard-to-find spirit.

When it comes to nighttime festivities, guests can relax in the Pheasantry bar, and there’s also the the option to add a second pop-up bar in the barn if you want your guests near the dancefloor at all times!

The Gate Street team strive to make every occasion an individual event, focussing on the unique requirements and ideas of the couple, with an attentive team who take care of every detail with a professional and organised approach.

On the day, couples will receive the assistance of a dedicated Front of House Manager who will oversee their wedding day, and from the moment you book, you’ll have access to a personalised ‘Wedmin’ platform, where the team answer questions quickly and are constantly on hand to help you with any query you may have.
